• The Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl seeks “to foster a love of reading in the children of Georgia, and to introduce them to books of literary excellence”. 

    This competition is “a competitive game format that questions students about the content of the Georgia Book Award Nominees each year.” 

    When preparing for the competition, students have "the opportunity to develop critical-thinking and reasoning skills, problem-solving competencies, and technology proficiency" through various activities.

    We have high expectations for each student who chooses to try-out for the HRRB Reading Team. In 2016 and 2018, McBean placed 2nd in the District competition and moved on to the regionals. In 2019, we succeeded in placing 1st in our District! Our 2020, 2022, and 2023 teams placed 3rd in the District. 

    The competition for the 2024 season will be announced at the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year.

    Congratulations to our reading team!! This year, we placed 2nd in the District and 5th in the Regional Competition.
