Dr. Jamyle Searcy

Hello my name is Dr. Jamyle Searcy but I am known as Dr. J. to most! If you know me or have had a coverstation with me for five minutes you will know that I am a proud native of Boston, Massachusetts! I graduated from Newton North High School in Newton, MA, a suburb of Boston as a student of the M.E.T.C.O. program. I have been a musician for as long as I can remember because, from a young age church served as an incubator for my innate musical abilities. Consequently this gift has taken me around the world.

Upon graduating from high school, I received a full tuition scholarship to Berklee College for Music in my hometown. After a few invaluable semesters there, I relocated to Columbia, SC and enrolled in Benedict College where I graduated from the School of Honors, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education with a choral concentration. While there, I served as a musician and musical director for the award-winning Benedict College Gospel Choir, as well as student conductor, musician, student arranger, and officer of the Benedict College Concert Choir under the tutorledge of Dr. Linda L. Kershaw.

As a part of my undergraduate studies, I completed my student teaching in Richland One School District at Lower Richland High School and was awarded Student Teacher Of The Year for Benedict College in 2002.

I am a proud three-time HBCU graduate earning a Master’s Degree (C. H. Mason Seminary - 2014), and a Doctorate (Morehouse School of Religion - 2019) from the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, GA.

I am a member of various social and community organizations, which include Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Theta Phi International Theological Honors Society, NAACP, Jack and Jill of America, Inc., Leadership Augusta (2018), and Leadership Columbia County (2019) to name a few.

My experience in Education has afforded me to teach in Burke County, Aiken County (Leavelle McCampbell Middle School), and Richmond County (Laney High School, Hornsby Elementary, Monte Sano Elementary, and Academy of Richmond County). I have also taught on the collegiate level at Geordia Military College, and Augusta Technical College as an Adjuct Professor and Lead Student Academic Advisor. Last spring I was honored as the Choral Director of the Year for 2023-24, and the ARC Chorus was awarded the High School Choir of the Year (2024). Currently, I serve as Lead Choral Teacher for Richmond County School System. In addition to my work in the district, I also serve as an Ordained Minister, a Certified Personal and Executive Coach, a local church pastor, and a community leader.

I am married to Dr. Kristie Searcy, a loving and present father to our children Jamyle III, Jayla, Kayden, and Myla, and grandfather to Jamyle III who is affectionately known as “JJ.” When I am not working I enjoy time with my family, quiet time alone, watching movies, and playing golf.
