    Greetings, HES Families!

The 2023-24 School Year is HERE and I have lots of FUN learning planned for the students!

The goal of Physical Education is to SAFELY foster lifelong physical activity in a unique way that reinforces the HES mission of developing caring, compassionate, and responsible students who are life-long learners committed to seeking knowledge of the global community in which they live.

In elementary school, this is done by exposing students to a variety of games and activities they might enjoy in the hope they will want to share them at home and encourage their family to join them.  In an IB school, it also affords them the unique opportunity to take ownership of their own learning and develop future-ready skills.

Many of the activities your child will be participating in are intended to facilitate learning and develop/master motor skills, team building, cooperation, physical fitness, and recreational skills.  Tying these activities together is a learner-created, goal-oriented curriculum designed to foster student-ownership of the learning process.  Students will have opportunities to establish rules for the gym, create games & activities designed to improve skills and knowledge, and teach one another.

As Physical Educator I pledge to:

    • Establish a positive and safe learning environment for all students

    • Teach a variety of activities that make physical education fun and enjoyable

    • Create maximum opportunities for students of all abilities to be successful

    • Promote student honesty, integrity and good sportsmanship

    • Guide students to becoming skillful and confident movers

    • Facilitate the development and maintenance of physical fitness

    • Assist students in setting and achieving personal goals

    • Provide academic rigor where appropriate

    • Provide specific and constructive feedback to help students master motor skills

    • Prepare and encourage students to gain skills and be active for a lifetime

I expect that our students will:

    • Learn lifelong healthy activity and self-care habits.

    • Have fun.

    • BE KIND to others.
    • PARTICIPATE and ACTIVELY ENGAGE in all activities, discussions, & learning sessions to their FULLEST ABILITY.

    • Wear shoes and clothing that allows them to safely and fully participate in PE

    • Cooperate with and help other students.

    • Be safe in all their actions.

    • Take care of PE equipment.

    • Stay on task.

    • Be polite

    • Pay attention to the teacher when they are addressing the class

*** Medical Issues such as chronic asthma, allergies, heart conditions, diabetes, etc. need to be brought to my attention and documented in the PE office.  Prior knowledge will help me monitor your child closely and correct or alleviate any problems that arise.

I look forward to working with your child this year!
